How we doing today neighbors Ian with etrailer here and today we’re gonna be taking a look at and then installing the Blue Ox two inch by two inch Class 3 receiver on our 2024 Ford Bronco. Let’s go over a few features of that hitch and then we’ll take care of the install. So the Ford Bronco is becoming a very popular vehicle. We’re seeing quite a few of them come through the shop here and a lot of them are ending up without any hitch at all. So we do want to open up the availability for our neighbors to be able to throw on that cargo carrier or be able to tow with their Bronco. So Blue Ox here is gonna be a great addition to your vehicle.

It even includes a nice place to be able to put that 4-pole or 7-way back here at the rear of the vehicle. So it does have a place for that to live another benefit of the Blue Ox hitch here. Now when it comes to capacities for this hitch, we are looking at 4,500 pounds on our towable capacity and 675 on that tongue weight. So that downward pressure. Now you will wanna make sure you double check in your user manual for your Bronco to see what the numbers are as far as their tow capacity listing and that tongue weight rating.

And if it happens to be lower than the hitch itself, do go with that lower number for safety concern. Now we can see from our side profile here that this Blue Ox does come out just a few inches from the bumper. We’re gonna go from the center of our hitch pin hole here out to the edge of our spare tire is looking at just 7 inches. So if you’ve got any folding accessories that may help you find that measurement from the center of your hitch pin hole out to that folded position to see if it’s gonna clear our tire on the back here. Another measurement to keep in mind is gonna be the ground clearance and we’ll talk about that momentarily.

I wanted to mention that the vehicle we’re working on today is the Outer Banks edition. So with different trim packages you may find you’ve got different tire and wheel sizes or maybe you’ve upgraded to an aftermarket style. So the measurement may not be the same. But for our Outer Banks addition here, when we’re talking about that, we’re coming from the ground to the inside upper edge of our receiver tube here, which is looking at right at 18-1/2 inches. So rough estimate of how far you may be sitting off the ground once you’ve got your full bike rack or cargo carrier on here.

Now this hitch is going to feature a 5/8 inch pinhole not included with the kit. So make sure you do look at our locking options so that way you can keep your accessory or towable safe. And I do like these safety chain loop styles a little bit more than the CURT option just because they’re a little easier to get the larger clevis style on or the S binder type. Now one thing I really like about Blue Ox’s hitch here is gonna be this nice powder coat finish. It is a semi-gloss so it’s going to have just a little bit of reflectivity to it but nice and thick coating so that way as the hitch gets used, you’re not gonna see as much wear on the inside of the tube or anywhere around your safety chain loops causing that premature corrosion or rust. Now we’re just about ready to get into the installation of this hitch here and I will say it’s gonna be a little bit difficult due to the fact that they put that bracket over the top of the factory wiring on there. And if you’re doing your hitch that would be the best time to go ahead and hook up your 7-pole or 4-pole there on our hitch as well. I’m gonna show you how to be able to work this bumper out of the way so that way we can access all of the bolts ’cause the bolts they give you that are holding that bracket on for the 7-pole are extremely long and are gonna make contact with the inside of the bumper here. But we’ve got a pretty quick solution to be able to get all that taken care of. If you happen to watch the video and think to yourself, I don’t want to try to tackle this hitch, please do check out our dealer locator on the website. We’d be happy to help you find a trained professional in your area to get this installed for you. But for all those DIYers, let’s go ahead and hop into it and get it taken care of. Now with the 2024’s we are seeing a commonality of there already being a 7-pole US car connector here and then it does have this bracket that lives over that to protect it. A
