Swami Vivekananda Rock Memorial is located in Kanyakumari the southernmost extremity of India. The rock islands which is separated, from the mainland. The site is accessible through seawater at a distance of 500 metres from the offshore jetty point to the memorial jetty point. The journey on a ferry takes 5 minutes to
reach the Rock Memorial.
On the rock stands the Vivekananda Rock Memorial built in 1970 with a combination of all Indian architectural styles. A mix of conventional and modern architectural styles of India, particularly a blend of Tamil Nadu and West Bengal styles of architecture is palpable from the design of the memorial. While the Memorial Mandapam resembles the Sri Ramakrishna Temple at Belur, West Bengal, the design of its entrance features the architectural styles of Ajanta and Ellora. It houses a life-size bronze statue of Swami Vivekananda standing in his famous ‘Parivarjak’ posture. The whole monument consists of two independent mandapas called the Vivekananda mandapa and the Sripada mandapa. There is also a dhyana mandapa for meditation.
